Bishop Poole was educated at Wilfrid Laurier University and received his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity College in 1977 and his Master of Theology from Trinity College in 1988. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1978 and served in three parishes in the Diocese of Toronto, most recently as the incumbent of Trinity, Aurora. He is currently the president of the international Compass Rose Society.

Bishop Poole was elected on Nov. 13, 2004, and consecrated suffragan bishop on Feb. 5, 2005.
